About the fitted thing: it also needs to be put on, like, perfectly. Improperly putting on armor can basically condemn a knight to hours of painful torment as a piece of the armor digs into their side or wont slide properly. And its a major exercise in communication and patience to teach someone

Helmet horror: panic attacks induced by the stress and enclosed feeling of wearing armor and helm, when you train armor for real you need to be ready to help friends out of helmets otherwise they might hyperventilate and pass out. Hence the pins. It might get bent and not come off immediately.

Fun fact: squires and men at arms would inherit the worn out and stretched arming doublets of wealthier and more powerful knights, which was a kind of medieval shirt/corset covered in holes that allowed you to lace the armor to your body. The holes would stretch out over time.
