How about a positive? The McGroarty-Kindel-Koivunen line played 9:10 at 5v5 tonight. In those minutes, they had: - 72.4% of the shot attempts - 86.7% of the expected goals for - 79% of the scoring chances - 100% of the high-danger chances. Give. Them. More. Minutes.

The Ducks gave them the best Hanukkah present with that late-game power play. All they have to do is…skate it out. Instead, Karlsson and Letang are out there together and they get burned (again). Dewar missed a wide-open net in OT. No original moves in a shootout (again). Gross.

Outside of the shootout, I felt the Penguins deserved a better fate. They were the better team all night and had a perfect third period going until the fourth line got trapped at the end. 5/6 points this week is super impressive, given the teams they played. Next 5 are at home.

Jarry gave them plenty of chances with the first couple of saves. It’d be nice if any of the players wanted to try something original instead of the same old moves. Hell, try new players!

Also, this is an unserious organization if you are loaning Kindel to the World Juniors. God forbid he gets hurt playing against teenagers when this team is in the middle of a playoff race. He’s been carrying his own line every game. There’s no reason to loan him.

The McGroarty-Kindel-Koivunen line played 10:06 at 5v5 tonight. When they were on the ice, the Penguins had: - 58.8% of the shot attempts - 70% of the scoring chances - 70.3% of the expected goals Pretty good debut!

It’s not a coincidence that the Penguins played one of their most complete games of the year with more of the kids in the lineup. You could tell the vets fed off them, especially when the Kindel line first took the ice. The result of this game was hardly ever in doubt.

Tommy Novak is a player you can use in virtually any situation. He’s always been a crafty playmaker, but his release is super underrated, as seen there. He’s been fabulous in his last few games.
