A1. I don’t usually get to do lessons after iPad turn in. I help collect iPads, &then field days, awards, etc. last 2 days. Activities on fave books:summer TBR could work. Promoting public library summer reading program. A colleague had kids try to arrange the top 10 checkouts in order. #TLSky

A2 I was just working on mine today! I use Canva &have used a template from @tljamesa.com the past few years. www.tljamesa.com/index.php/20... I would overthink what to include &how to layout the EOY &then not have time to pull it together without a template. So a template is a must IMO. #TLSkyChat

A3. A few years ago we added intentional checkpoints throughout the year to touch base with kids with a book months overdue. That cut down on lost books A LOT. I try to always be approachable & low key in these chats. They seem to help the book’s existence not fall off the kid’s radar. #TLSkyChat

A8 My favorite story today is that an 8th grade boy walked in with a tote bag because he knew we were giving away some weeded books today. He was ready and excited. I can’t pick one for the year though. I have a new favorite story each week. #TKSkyChat

A7 The goal for me is to inventory everything once a year. We start inventory late winter or early spring. Books are still going in and out, but it helps us see what wandered off, needs a new barcode, etc., which prevents wasted time and problems later. #TLSkyChat

A8 Our district librarians get together monthly-ish. My state library org has a listserv and subgroup for school librarians I got introduced to early which was pivotal for me. I also got into EduTwitter when I was transitioning from the classroom to the library. #TLSkyChat

A7 My favorite is in person conferences. I get so much from those. My state library conference is always a go to. - Social media. Love being able to connect with so many librarians. - I’m a PD/conference nerd. So lots of others but those are two of my biggest go to’s. #TLSkyChat

A6 Start collecting data and thinking about how to share it and who to share it to. - Make connections. Go to conferences. Join your state org. - Ask questions and build relationships. - Tell others what’s happening. Some of your collaborators will also advocate for libraries. #TLSkyChat

A6: don’t do it alone! Reach out to other librarians whether they are in your district, county, state etc. This is when you lean on your PLC for ideas & support. if you haven’t joined your local/state/natl library orgs yet give it a shot-they’re a great place to start building that plc #TLSkyChat

A4 Two of my favorite programs are happening right now. I started an annual bookmark design contest several years ago, and I started a Spring into Reading BINGO challenge a handful of years ago. I also love World Read Aloud Day and connecting with authors. #TLSkyChat

#TLSkyChat A4. Recently, I've been using Padlet to create "virtual book adventures." These virtual field trips invite kids to explore locations related to a book and then complete tasks informed by the text AND their explorations. I've only created two so far, but here they are!

A3 Sharing a “menu” of ideas at the beginning of the year, sending resources to new teachers that people sometimes forget to give them (i.e. printers), sharing/brainstorming collab topics, or inviting down for a specific reason/stations/etc. Always looking for more things to try! #TLSkyChat

A2 It can be hard to devote big chunks of time to weeding. But I’ve been working on finding ways to weed more often in bite sized pieces - scanning a couple of shelves randomly to see circulations, pulling books when classes are browsing as I walk by different areas to scan later, etc. #TLSkyChat

A4 I think school libraries need to continue their focal points on access, accurate information, reading, collaboration, etc. But we also need to continue to evolve our practices to meet the needs of different generations and adapt to changing technologies. #AASLslm #TLSkyChat

A3 Book tastings are one of my oldie/goodie faves for trying different books &getting readers interested. A genre project I did with a teacher last year helped engage students in different genres. This year I tried a reader personality quiz with 7th graders that went well. #AASLslm #TLSkyChat

A2 So many ways. One example is that I’ve written some local grants to acquire more funds for supporting learners that need different things such as Playaway audiobooks or books in other languages. School librarians often advocate for all students and for access. #AASLslm #TLSkyChat

A1 Fave moments are where a kid returns for a sequel to a book you rec’d, a kid writes a thoughtful note, a kid is enthusiastic about a book/resource/etc. - Two of the focal points for school librarians have long been access &accurate info. Lots of people mentioning stickers...which has me thinking - has anyone had any luck with a particular brand of sticker paper and printed them themselves? I love a good DIY. #TLSkyChat

A8 I usually connect with authors via Zoom for World Read Aloud Day, but one of my colleagues invites in local leaders to read that week. Some of my colleagues partner with Love on a Leash. I love the idea of READ posters with local leaders...I need to think about that! #TLSkyChat

A7 I used to do menu/library info bookmarks but then switched to full sized menus and needed more room...maybe I could figure out a way to do both. Students design most of the bookmarks we hand out. #TLSkyChat

A6 The shutdown motivated me to completely overhaul &bulk up my Canvas. My setup operates like a site. I have 6ish main buttons on the home page that go to categories like Research, Book Access, etc. The Research area is huge &has buttons for topics & then databases, rec resources, etc. #TLSkyChat

A5 I have a school library account on Twitter & Instagram. I don't get as much traffic on Twitter as used to & am considering dropping to just Instagram. Some parents on Facebook...but I have stayed away from FB for 10 yrs &don't want to go back. What platforms are people getting results? #TLSkyChat

A4: I have had a library newsletter at various pts in my career but I often struggle to maintain it for the long term. It’s also hard to put in the time &effort when it doesn’t always get read. I’d love tips and tricks on how to make putting one together easier! #TLSkyChat

A4 Our school has a newsletter to families/households. It is now weekly. I try to send them something to put in it almost every time. It is shared digitally via Parent Square. I also try to post things on social media, especially Instagram under a library account. #TLSkyChat

A3 I use fonts consistently within a group like on the genre signs or on Canvas buttons, but I'm not great at being consistent across groups. I try to pick easy to read fonts and high contrast colors and tend to stay away from cursive since some students can't read it. #TLSkyChat

#TLSkyChat A2. Library signage (like displays, shelving, etc.,) reflect our values. With that in mind, it's important to make sure your signage emphasizes a) what learners CAN do (rather than can't) b) accessibility for everyone c) your role in the school community and d) our diverse world.

A2 I made genre signs years ago in Piktochart that we still use! They help show kids which shelves/rows have which genres. The colors I picked go along with the spine label colors from Demco for the genre stickers. Also try to have signs for New Book Shelf, Students Recommend Shelf, etc. #TLSKyChat

A1 A class I took in grad school a few years ago motivated me to make a more professional logo in Canva for my school's library. In Canva you can add set colors and things as a Brand Kit. I have one in dark blue, white, and dark gray to go along with our school colors. #TLSkyChat
