Our German live-data fully-renewable electricity simulation deals with another dark wind lull (Dunkelflaute)! Because of repeated Dunkelflauten, the hydrogen storage is now down to 60% full. Will be exciting to see how much further it runs down this winter. model.energy/future/

Energy Exemplar has blocked all TU Berlin students from academic licences for their energy modelling tool PLEXOS because competitor PyPSA is developed here. While deeply shocked, we believe in turning the other cheek. So we are offering all Energy Exemplar employees a free licence for PyPSA.

What open source model should we be using to investigate conceptual issues related to multi-decadal energy system transition? We need something that can run fast, and that we can put under a wrapper so we can automatically run many thousands of cases. Is OSeMOSYS our tool of choice?

Tough few days for our simulation of a future German renewable electricity system. The dreaded dark wind lull forces the model to rely on stored electrolytic hydrogen. But fortunately hydrogen storage was full at the beginning, and has only dropped to a level of 85% so far. model.energy/future/
