With a bit of luck, I'll have an abundance of Devil's bit scabious, Field scabious,Greater knapweed and Goldenrod. All seed gathered from local plants, pesticide free,insecticide free, & suited to the needs of local insects and invertebrates. #peatfree compost, minimal expense. Worth trying.

So that's it then. The biggest fish kill in the history of the State, and we're just going to move on, with no idea who or what caused it? It would be better to label it a river kill. Some major polluter is today breathing a sign of relief, while the river Blackwater remains half dead. 🧵

The Sand Martin are wasting no time this year. With the sunshine lots have paired up & are building nests. The contrast between this yr & last couldn't be greater. Sand Martin are hugely weather dependant. Cool & wet conditions make for low productivity. Let's hope this year is kind to them.

What a great day, spent helping plant approx 700 trees at Kyrie Farm, including oak, birch, alder and scots pine, and 70+ orchard fruit trees. With old friends and new, volunteers and colleagues, good for the soul and I can safely say workout done for the day!

A nice summary of the big issue with flea and tick treatments for pets. UK based research, but we use the very same products over here. There's no doubt that we have the same issues.

Important info for pet owners, but the manufacturers, suppliers and regulators are at fault. Flea and tick treatments are a concentrated dose of insecticide/pesticide. They end up in our canals and rivers, on your clothes and skin and those of your children, and now this...

I love how this camera trap project has great value both as a scientific data set and a way to engage the public on local wildlife. In Ardclough, in one little spot (sticking with mammals), we've got footage of badger, fox, pine martin, wood mouse, rat, rabbit, hedgehog, mink and countless cats.

Swifts have seen dramatic declines in Ireland over recent decades. Providing nesting sites is proven to help a lot. They're not messy and they need no maintenance. Let us know where we could erect some swift nest boxes around Ardclough! More info here: www.swiftconservation.ie/wp-content/u...
