I have so much I want to do, but a body that can’t perform all those things very well or quickly right now. It’s a very frustrating reality, but I also feel like I’ve been handling it with more self care than a past version of me might have.

Finally, my art block seems to be ending! I want to make cute solstice art, finish some in-flight projects, and continue brainstorming/planning a special room re-design we’ll be doing in our house next year.

Chronic fatigue is rough. There are medical reasons for my daily exhaustion but man 😅 I can’t do nearly the amount of things I normally can in one day anymore, and it’s been hard to adjust mentally to that. Need to be kinder to myself and celebrate small victories.

Drawing instead of writing. No, really. I default to visual art and while that’s not inherently a bad thing, it’s not helping me write the story I actually want to write, and often lament not writing. I need to set up better daily habits/structures for doing both hobbies consistently.

I have three different physical sketchbooks right now lol a “travel journal”, where all the mixed media art is from places I’ve visited/adventures I’ve had (local and far). One is for practicing alcohol markers specifically. And one is a combo bullet journal/planner and random sketches.

The four aspects of a great character are the Need, the Want, the Ghost, and the Lie. A Want is their conscious desire. A Need is what they really want but might not know. A Lie is the thing they believe that keeps them from that Need. A Ghost is that spiritual wound that caused the Lie.

#PlotTober Day 13: I’ve written a draft of the start already! It opens with Lou (and her brothers) finding Bloodfury. I’m torn on whether I’ll go back and add a prologue or not. There’s definitely a scene I could use for that. I’ll probably write it and see how it ends up sounding!

#PlotTober Day 12: Well, there are two opposing secret societies that all the main characters inevitably end up crossing paths with. Though one has an arguably “better” goal for the realm than the other, both get in the way of the MCs’ personal goals!

#PlotTober Day 11: Lou has a lot of potential to change into someone more ambitious & motivated than she currently is. She’s been without a driving passion for most of her young adult life, never taking anything very seriously. She needs a wake up call about that - which the story ends up providing!

Fantastic thread that made me stop and think hard about how I, an artist, talk about myself & my art. Admittedly, I’m often more negative than positive. That changes today. I hate AI, but that aside, I want to contribute to making others feel excited about creativity vs the opposite.

#PlotTober: Lou’s mother died when she was a child, so that loss definitely shaped her current personality. Lou’s backstory also involves the realties of being a commoner in a harsh high fantasy world vs what some of the more wealthy/noble characters have experienced.

#PlotTober Day 9: Lou is initially pretty lazy, content to coast by on her father’s farm. Deep down, though, there’s a fierce protectiveness (especially for family) & a desire to prove herself. She is a character that “hardens” during the story. I really want her to be a total badass by the end!

#PlotTober Day 8: Lou’s first goal of getting rid of the magical talking sword gets quickly side-tracked when she realizes she can’t be parted from it! She inadvertently formed a blood pact with it, and will need to seek more advanced magical expertise to figure out how to break something like that.

#PlotTober Day 7: Well, Lou's original goal of getting rid of the weird sword she found has a little to do with protecting her family from potentially dangerous magic and a little to do with her own aversion to responsibility.

I gave up on Inktober so early this year, but that’s just the reality of living with depression. A sudden storm comes on and ruins all your plans. But it’s ok - I’ve got plenty of art I want to do this month, just maybe not the daily pressures of that sort of challenge 😅

#PlotTober Day 6: Lou had no real goals until she stumbled upon a magical talking sword. At the start of my WIP, she wants to get rid of the thing, so she takes it to Arascain, the capital of the nation she lives in where she can hopefully hand it off to the wizard tower there and be done with it…
