I wrote this back in March, and I still believe it holds true. The Trump regime appears intent on either undermining the next election or bypassing it entirely. Upholding democratic norms doesn't seem to be a priority for them and they know they can’t hold on to power by legitimate means.

Greenland is happening. Not a joke, not trolling, not a distraction. He has already made up his mind and nobody who matters in the inner circle will try to talk him out of it. Some of them want it precisely because it will destroy NATO. There are no adults in the room. They really mean to do it.

I think this is his fantasy. He’ll likely try every possible tactic to sabotage or manipulate the elections, making them as unfair as needed to secure a win. The Trump regime can’t afford to lose - and they know it. If undermining democracy is the price of staying in power, they’ll gladly pay it.
