Ukrainian Forces drive Russian Oplot brigade battalion from positions near Pokrovsk In Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region, Ukrainian airborne troops have inflicted heavy losses on personnel from Russia’s “Oplot” brigade - the same force they previously fought at Donetsk airport. On the Pokrovsk axis, soldiers of Ukraine’s 79th Separate Tavrian Air Assault Brigade dealt critical losses to the 2nd Battalion of Russia’s 5th Separate “Oplot” Brigade. According to the brigade, Russian troops left so many dead in trenches, tree lines and abandoned houses that they were forced to abandon their positions in order to replenish manpower. Video of the attack on Russian forces was published on the 79th Brigade’s Facebook page. The footage appears to show bomber drones dropping mines and shells on Russian soldiers. FPV drones were also used to strike Russian troops and equipment. Ukraine’s 79th Brigade considers the 5th Separate “Oplot” Brigade among its longstanding adversaries. The Mykolaiv-based paratroopers fought against the same unit in 2014 at Donetsk airport, where Ukrainian defenders earned the nickname “cyborgs.” The brigade said its servicemen are doing everything possible to prevent the enemy from rebuilding its manpower near Pokrovsk. The 79th Brigade also warned that one of Russia’s motorized rifle brigades had received orders to regroup from Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk for assaults farther to the north. As previously reported, on March 16, Dialog.UA said Ukrainian forces advanced on the southern front, liberating the settlement of Lukianivske and up to 20 square kilometers of territory in the Stenohorsk area.
