National HIV Testing Week is back and it’s never been easier to test for HIV. This week, we’re calling on people across England to test - it’s free and confidential. It’s also the only way to know if you have HIV and worth doing because people can live with HIV for a long time without any symptoms.

Today, I had the privilege of engaging with the London Assembly Health Committee as they scrutinized HIV and sexual health in London. This was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on current trends, challenges, and opportunities for strengthening the city’s response.

What is Public Health? What has it ever done for us? Public health is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations, public and private, communities, and individuals.

Critical in Public Health’s evolution, are the worsening health, economic, & social inequalities across societies. Fuelled by historic, systemic and structural factors, these inequalities exacerbate current health threats & risk being weaponised. Let me be clear: There is no health without equity.

I’m be keen to discuss the nature and role of Public Health in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world. A world where declining public trust, with political, social, technological and economic upheaval, are fundamentally changing who we are, what we do, and how we respond to threats.
