Perfect example why 4K is the first format that isn't automatically an 'upgrade'. There's way too much of this awful shit going on. Shadows are not flaws. Color is by design. The goal isn't to 'fix' darkness. The Terminator: 35mm (top) 4K scan (bottom) Image courtesy: BobbyCastro1994

As Kevin Gonzalez lay in a hospital bed, his gaunt frame ravaged by cancer, his aspirations narrowed to a final wish: seeing his parents before he died. Fulfilling that dream meant a desperate fight against time as his father and mother sat in immigration detention.

As
@climatechirper.bsky.social
says, "The deliberate actions of colonialists in the 1870s disrupted local systems that communities relied on for being resilient to climate variations." So, it's wrong to claim that it was
#ElNino
that killed millions in 1877.

A super El Niño wiped out millions of people in 1877. Are we better prepared now?
The climatic phenomenon is expected to return this year, but a lot has changed since what might have been the worst environmental disaster in human history.

In the main square of the village of Pavía (Portugal) you can find an authentic dolmen from the Late-Neolithic or Neo-Chalcolithic periods, known as the Anta de Pavia or the Anta-Capela de São Dinis. And even more curious, in the 17th century it got converted into a small chapel, stil in use!

Typical Israel, using terms such as "deport" to imply that they were no longer welcome in the country, when they were NEVER even intending to go there, they were going to Gaza. When you KIDNAP someone, you don't DEPORT them, you RELEASE them from their ILLEGAL INCARCERATION.

In other film news, the Varda exhibition at Villa Medici is excellent, purposefully defocusing Demy and centering her independent photography practice, complete with photos of an unrealized second feature that would have been set in Italy!

Le Bonheur, Agnès Varda (1965) With vivid colours, summer landscapes, and the music of Mozart, Varda creates a film of remarkable formal elegance that, beneath its apparent lightness, gradually reveals a far more bitter reflection on emotional selfishness and the illusions of bourgeois happiness.
