games based on licensed IP never work the way laypeople think they work. each licensor's level of oversight varies wildly. there is no room in which licensor and dev sit there and twirl their mustaches and conspire to piss off their fanbase. also, licensing IP =/= work for hire.

That the solution to their pain point is/should have been obvious, and is simple/quick to implement. "Obvious" solutions typically introduce new problems that players don't anticipate, are limited by the game tech/architecture, or require multiple people who are now tied up in other work

I have the most boring answer which is just: every single little thing in every game takes about 600,000x more effort than you think it does. any time I see a streamer play some low effort asset flip trash from the Steam store I still think "god damn this still took WORK though"
