they’re bluffing when they say you can still get knocked off the nice list this late in the game. santa’s been delivering gifts in japan for hours by now; that list is locked, do whatever you want.

how long after your kids go to bed is it cool to drink the beer they leave out for Santa? Any longer than five or ten mins and it'll be warm like

Despite a previous emailing promising to deliver 'in time for the big day', GLS have now told us that it isn't out for delivery until Dec 27-28. Just had to break the news to the little man. Heart-breaking

Schuko plug and sockets where common in Ireland up to 1964 when the BS ones were adopted as the standard going forward, a mistake in hindsight. I'd forgotten about these but they were the majority of sockets in my childhood home, alongside at least one round pin three pin and few "newer" BS sockets.

question for historians of Tudor / early modern Ireland - did Hugh O'Neill, 2nd Earl of Tyrone actually shoe his horse on the Hill of Tara? presumably some time after Essex's departure, late 1599, early 1600?

Absolutely delighted to see that my article on Catholic chapels in Ireland from the 1790s to the 1820s is now available in Architectural History, the journal of the SAHGB - a real career dream come true to have an article in this journal, I must say!

I think it's important not to misunderstand what these social media platforms are. They are not public arenas where we bravely take on reactionary forces in honorable combat. They are apps that expose you to stress and thereby simulate the feeling of having done something useful

people who are going to characterise this as some kind of conspiracy whereby the Ukrainians launched drones against their own President (or something) to help Martin make the case for more defence spending have extremely generous opinions on the government's competence

It strikes me that the meeting

on the Hill of Crufty in 1641 should have a bigger place in our national story. This was the first time the Gaelic/Old Irish and Norman/Old English came together in rebellion and thus laid the foundation of modern Irish inclusive republican nationalism
