Look I just can't believe that a group of people murdered someone in broad daylight, with witnesses and with impunity, and anyone at all wants to argue that that was ok because he maybe shoplifted. Yves Sakila was murdered. How are we ok with someone being murdered?! Jesus what is wrong with ye.

Other people have noticed this phenomenon too but danah boyd put the best slogan to it: social media is now parasocial media. Social media hasn't been social for a long while—how long depending on the platform, depending on the milieu. It's not folks sharing equally, but broadcasting and receiving.

Social Media Is Now Parasocial Media - danah boyd, 2026
When practitioners used the term “social media” to describe the internet tools that emerged in the mid-aughts, they were giving a name to the kinds of platforms...

the (ever so slightly) stronger statements from the Irish government regarding the IDF kidnapping Irish citizens this time is purely because Ben-Gvir posted that video. if they were simply told this had happened later by the detainees, you can be sure the government wouldn't take them at face value

the same analysis could apply to Fianna Fáil - absolutely nothing to stop any of the disgruntled backbenchers writing a policy proposal of what they'd do differently, other than their own lack of ability

folx, I’ve been working on AI "ethics" for almost a decade now & hate to tell you there’s no such thing as "ethical AI" the only "ethical principle" that works is regulating the shit out of the industry & to take back control of our autonomy, fundamental rights, freedoms & right to exist w/out AI

A British political system ruthless enough to topple failing leaders when they have run out of road still looks a lot healthier than an American political system that can't bring itself to topple a failing leader that has tumbled into complete insanity

When FF entered government in 2020, there were aprox 10,000 homeless people in Ireland. That number is now over 17,000.

People complaining about the 127k for a bike parking facility obviously have not tried to buy a window or get any work done recently. This seems like it's just anti public services sentiment with a particular anti cycling flavour to it.

so in Wales the Senedd election count doesn't start til the morning after the election, and the same in Scotland for Holyrood - just like in Ireland for the Dáil. Is there something wring with Celtic nations that we can't count ballots overnight??

"A similar drama could have been made about Ireland – but such a project is unlikely to ever see the light of day, at least not on Netflix, which is more interested in caricaturing Ireland as a land of 24-hour potato people (House of Guinness, Bodkin, etc)."

sure you can say 'dad' instead of father, and party instead of feast, but what do you say for 'suitors'? It's a completely alien concept to modern times, that's what jarred for me most in the trailer

In a perfect world, cinematic depictions of the Ancient Mediterranean would have everyone speaking actual Greek, Latin, etc to reinforce some of the strangeness of that time and place to us moderns. Unfortunately, only one man in Hollywood agrees with me on this, and, worse, it's Mel Gibson.

Also, don’t make us wait 3+ years between seasons. Even if every season is a masterpiece, you can’t really enjoy a show with so many big gaps. And usually the show suffers—you lose writers or other talent, the actors age too much, etc. Make at least one season a year until you are done!

Conor Maguire and Hugh Mac Mahon, escaped from the Tower of London on 18 August 1644 - but weren't recaptured until 19 September in Covent Garden. What do you do for a month on the run in London in the 1600's?
