Someone should probably inform the White House's "AI & Crypto Czar" that no one is forcing AI companies to train their models on Wikipedia

So many technology companies that people revere seem to either be ran by bullies, pedophiles, anarcho-capitalists with fascist tendencies, or straight up genocide enablers. We were supposed to be better than that, and our work was to make the world a better place right? 🤷‍♂️ Guess money always wins.

We have a choice to fight back against companies who seem to be led by people deprived of moral and ethical values. We have a choice other than being complacent with their attitude and leadership. We can & must to better!

It's kinda sad seeing how so many creators are trying to squeeze the hype train of AI as much as they can, screw ethics. Posting fake MRR numbers for apps that already shut down and presenting them as viable apps to build, then deleting comments when people show the numbers are fake. Be better. 🫠

Working with computers is exhausting. In gamedev you see teams pretending they are actually just one person and it being used as an excuse to fire people. And in webdev being told AI is going to replace everyone soon™️ but you don't see anything new being created with this "awesome productivity".

Apparently I grind my teeth also when I'm working, not just when asleep, so now every time I put on my mouth guard to work (code) I always remember this amazing scene from Johnny Mnemonic.

I'm an atheist but regardless of beliefs, it's really sad losing Pope Francisco. Especially at a time where we needed his reconciling voice, his empathy, and his compassion so much.

The YouTube to Steam pipeline works. My 6yo kid saw his favourite YouTuber playing a game he liked so used all his "tooth fairy money" to buy it on Steam. So proud of this moment, the first game he bought with his own money. 🥹

Something I still struggle with 5+ years later is the balance of "research and document" and exploration through code. Sometimes it's just easier for me to code to learn how things could work, but oftentimes it's much harder to share the research with others through a pull request. 🤔

So many advances in AI and productivity, yet I work part-time for a bit because I am sick and I can't get anything done due to timezones, meetings, and code reviews that don't get done in time for me to advance in the few hours I have. It's a really tricky balance having speed and mature processes.

It's sad, but I see very little alternative to the fact almost every internet space was consolidated into US centric platforms, so there is no way to actively avoid the discourse, except removing yourself from those spaces, but at the cost of robbing you of the good things of said spaces. 🥲

But in the last few months they all turned into Elon adorers, and decided tech is best used to propagate this oligarchy's viewpoints instead.

What no one told me about programming: joining a development team late means you are the one having to fix a "TODO" in a crunch that has been left undisturbed in the code base for years until you stepped on it. Lesson learned: join a team early enough that you are the one leaving those comments.

It amazes me how the (vocal online) tech industry suddenly is okay with the bad experience and dark patterns on Twitter, yet Bluesky is held to a much higher standard of quality. These are the same people that "teach" you to build a scrappy competitor to an incumbent as the way to go.
