The judgement builds on case law surrounding powers of immigration detention + consequent immigration bail. These powers can only be applied where there is some prospect of removal. Now the High Court has extended the application of these principles to the exercise of electronic monitoring powers.

Sad statistics from the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman report: 35% increase in deaths in prison and other custody last year. At least one death at Brook House IRC which has pending Inquest hearing later this month. The Labour government must act quickly and now.
