I wish political leaders in Europe over the last decade had spent less time & effort fighting the invented “invasion” of immigrants and more time & effort addressing the very real, atrocity-ridden invasion to the east.

Trump officials don't like being called fascists. Understandable. It's not a nice label. So, how about this: Trump officials stop doing fascist things, and everyone stops calling them fascists? A compromise to heal the nation...

One reason, sure, but maybe more immediately important is that, to Trump and many Trump supporters, "cities" and "urban" are code words for "black". Sending troops to the cities is a way of showing his whites he's dominating blacks, a way to demonstrate his commitment to white supremacy.

Even if diplomacy limits governing parties, if non-governing UK and European pro-democracy parties had any cojones, they’d be running attack ads of Trump’s UN speech saying “This is who [domestic far-right party or party leader] is supported by and wants to be like here.”

People ask, does he really believe this stuff? But that question is not relevant. To Trump, words are not "true" or "false" - he doesn't believe or not believe in their veracity. Words only "help Trump" or "harm Trump". So, what he believes is that saying this will benefit him. And that's far worse.
