Prompted by a lot, but… reminder that anyone looking for developers to be paragons or looking to demonize them as a big bad is going to be disappointed. They are building stuff we need, and are no more or less self interested or savvy than other political actors. Don’t love or hate them.

This seems like a pretty good example for how much zoning / development restrictions writ large are still holding back housing production. This is super valuable land that, even in a high interest environment, is able to profitably be developed at very high densities.

As a longtime member of this Y: please put high-rises on the site! The facility is falling apart and needs replacing, and people need housing. Win-win

It should be legal to build homes that I do not personally want to live in. Not every home will serve everyone at every stage of life. Families are not the only people who need housing. New housing primarily benefits the people who get places to live, not the investors who make money on it.

There are about 27 million apartments in 5+ unit buildings in the United States. Housing is expensive because we do not have enough homes in the places people want to live, not because Blackstone owns less than 1% of the apartment market.

I've spent years advocating for and consulting on state shield laws. It made my day that these shield laws upset Alito so much that he bitched about them in his dissent.

NIMBYism is the last remaining civic “association” Americans are capable of. A totally cooked society that can only say “no.” If we didn’t already have a society, there’s no way we could build Main Streets or public schools or libraries in today’s American.
