To explain this photo a bit more: back then, most programming was done on paper (sometimes on special coding sheets), then punched onto cards/tape, then fed into a mainframe to be tested (& if necessary debugged). Counterintuitively, needing LESS computer time was the mark of a better programmer!

Or maybe just doing things in your local community that are helpful even if not dependent on your knowledge of linguistics. Everyone has their role to play in this fight

Teaching is one straightforward way that I've felt like I've made a difference by introducing new students to linguistics within a framework of variation and diversity from the beginning, but what else can we do if/when we aren't in that position?

What can we, as language scientists, be doing right now to combat the hateful (and incorrect) language ideology that the US government is pushing? Especially as a sociolinguist, I feel a duty/calling to spread the word and combat linguistic prejudice, but I'm not sure practically how to do so 🗣💬
