GDC 2026 is done! Had a very different GDC this year, running from hotel lobby to hotel lobby pitching my next title. Was a great time though catching up with friends and making new ones. Next stop, Gamescom!

It's a bit silly, I've always thought of games with over 1000 reviews as the "big hitters". The giants in the indie space. Pretty incredible to see Little Rocket Lab hit that milestone. I think we might be on to something here.

I think about Swen Vincke's speech from the Game Awards 2024 often. How mind-numbingly simple his postulations are and how crazy it is that they still need to be said, and how it feels like a breath of fresh air when they are. The edit in 2034 with all the GOTYs with this audio is gonna go so hard

whenever I'm like "hey if there's no game jobs, then there's no game jobs, I'll just quit already", I'll get a message like this, and it makes me realize. We're indies, we share knowledge and skills, and help each other out. That's what this industry is about, for me.

As a kid growing up playing SNES games, I never thought that one day I'd get to release a game on a Nintendo console. This is honestly an incredible moment. So happy to have Little Rocket Lab on Switch.

Getting stuck causes players to explore the world. Dying causes players to think about what they're doing. An "impossible" situation causes players to learn how the game works and eventually achieve the impossible. We need to be able to design *some* games around these fundamental ideas.

to make a video game is to constantly be thinking about what elements you need to put into place to trick people into thinking this emotionally troubled computer program you built is a real video game

Lana did a ton of work on Little Rocket Lab, from building interiors/exteriors to furniture, plants, forgable items and more. The game looks so much better thanks to all her work!

My first title, Little Rocket Lab, has now been out for a week, and it's been huge for myself and @nomorerobots.io. We're at over 80,000 players, and a 93% positive rating on steam. I wanted to share some of what guided Little Rocket Lab's development, so that maybe it could be helpful to others 🧵:

This can't be emphasized enough. We launched the first playtest back in February this year, and have spent most of the time since addressing issues. There was so much critical feedback that we worked into the game, and we did over 4 full rounds of this kind of testing and improvement.

One cool feature of Steam is they provide a Harassment Zone for each game you announce. It's a place for people who hate progress to come and crap all over games they haven't even played. No, they won't help you moderate it, but hey, at least you can't delete it!

One of my goals with this game was to promote girls and women in STEM. If the majority of the key characters in the game being women bothers some players, it means it's even more important for this game to exist.

Donovan's music so so beautiful in this game. I have been constantly floored how Donovan can take vague description of a mood and turn it into such an incredible score. You don't want to sleep on this, it's a stellar soundtrack from start to finish and deserves a listen.

@underpalewater.bsky.social has done all the character design, key art, dialog portraits (over 200 of them!!!) and most of the illustrations in the game. There aren't enough words to describe how much her artwork has elevated the game and how much I owe to her for where the game is today.

And to think that it actually was started back at the end of 2020! Kind of surreal that it's launching next week!
