Biden has granted Leonard Peltier commutation of his life sentence to serve the remainder of his sentence at home, effective February 18th, 2025. NDN Collective called Leonard Peltier just outside of the Coleman, FL prison after the news was confirmed, to ask if he had a message for Indian Country.

Please continue to hold Leonard in your hearts, and say prayers for all that comes next for him. His feet will soon be on the soil of his homelands, finally a free man.

Although this fight to release Leonard Peltier from prison is over, the fight for justice and the healing of our People from systems that continue to target, criminalize, incarcerate, and murder our people is a fight we continue to take on here at NDN Collective, and globally.

Parts of Pasadena and Altadena are historic Black enclaves that are often overlooked in the narrative of Black L.A. I heard from my hair stylist yesterday that her older Black mother lost her house. And there are so many stories like these emerging. This is so devastating.

Trauma follows people into the classroom. Monday there's going to be educators and students walking into classrooms in LA who have lost everything. Others have been displaced and facing uncertainty. Folks gotta be prepared to meet kids where they are, not where they wish they were.
