Good spot for apple trees here. I don't plant them, just mow around them. There are some big 100+ year old trees where the seeds came from but deer would eat the seedlings until I showed up 20 years ago with greyhounds and built a fence.

Colchicum autumnale 'Album'. Planted off in another spot with many other varieties years ago and the only one to survive slugs mauling the spring foliage. They never touch this one.

My greyhound Spinner's grave. He was a grade AA racer at Dubuque retired for a injury. On 9-25-2015 he took a hard tumble & couldn't get up and wouldn't let me move him so I had to play DIY vet. Hoping to get through our 10th anniversary without thinking about it. No such luck.

Great fall colors from the woodbine growing on an old apple tree. Parthenocissus quinqefolium prefers part shade and has a strong affinity to rosaceous trees like apple and hawthorn. Berries loved by birds. Plants are not harmful to trees or masonry like ivies.
