@intrepidusink.bsky.social Well, I’ve given birth, and there’s nothing like that mix of pain, emotion, and instincts to concentrate the mind! I did draw on my own experience. Doing it in few words is largely due to repeated rewrites, I’m a compulsive culler of words.

@elizabethcollis.bsky.social you balance many elements in this piece: the narrator's emotions, her very real physical pain, and her goals of fight, flight, and survive. How did you achieve so much in so few words? 4 of 5

@intrepidusink.bsky.social I discover the tension, but initially I have placed a complex character in a challenging position, so the tautness is not hard to find. It’s a question of ushering the story along using careful pacing and those shift moments.

When it comes to flash, I often like to structure my stories around a concept first. In Counter Offer, I knew I wanted to do something with alternate worlds and holes. And of course, henchmen. From there, I let the story unfold organically, then touched up as needed! @intrepidusink.bsky.social
