A thrill to interview such talented folks. I've been a fan of Evan's since he created the Boneshaker Almanac zines (any fans out there?)! And the fact that Mark just stumbled across his book at Powell's one day and 10+ years later we have this film is just so cool.

What a thrill to interview author Evan P Schneider and filmmaker Mark Alan Hoffman. Mark’s film, “A Simple Machine” is an adaptation of Evan’s book. A bicycle plays a central role in the film, and it was shot entirely in Portland. Full interview up soon.

I first met Kiel when he was a new Lewis & Clark grad and began leading "bike trains" in North Portland. In 2011, he responded to a story I posted on BikePortland about OHSU looking for someone to open a bike shop under the Tram. And the rest is history... 🎉 Largest bike valet in North America!!

Sort of buried in all of today's big IBR project news is that officials have confirmed the @oregonjournalism.bsky.social and @cityobservatory.bsky.social reporting about the massive new cost estimate. They now admit that the full project will likely cost $14.4 BILLION

!!!! If only Ferguson or someone else at the presser would have used the phrase "right-sized" I would have died. Of course they are saying the 5 miles of freeways and 7 interchanges will still come later, but still.

Update: Bike paths are definitely still in the phase 1 scope!

Not sure what happened to my previous thread, but big news is they've announced smaller scope for Interstate Bridge Replacement Program - just the bridges and light rail extension - that will allow the project to move forward for $7.65 billion estimate. Construction planned to start 2028.

It's so sad that we even still allow studded tires in Oregon -- or that we don't tax the hell out of them! Seriously. They are totally unnecessary and cost taxpayers many millions of dollars each year in road damage. Now... please get them off by April 1.

We should hear the official announcement of this sometime this week. I'm curious who will be on this "blue ribbon" panel of transportation experts and advocates.
