Sure is interesting to me how Portland Police issue a careless driving citation at the scene of a crash when it involves one of their own. I'm always told they can't do this until investigation closes, and in many cases (involving bike riders), police just leave it to insurance to figure out.

Police just shared the name of one of the three people killed in separate traffic crashes in Hazelwood N'hood on October 28th. His name was Don Edney, a 59 year old man who was in a wheelchair when he was hit. Look at all the people who showed up for a celebration of his life at a local church. ❤️‍🩹

Damn. Never realized that Oregon fatal crashes are so closely tied to VMT. This is one reason why it's so vital that we make buses and bikeways as good as possible and do everything we can w land use & housing to lower our VMT. Drive more, die more. Drive less, die less. It's that simple.

One of the things that excites me abt Mamdani is his priority not just for more government, but an “excellent” gov’t. He talks of “end of mediocrity” & abt wanting to “cut bloat” from gov’t. This is what’s been missing from mainstream Dem/left politics for too long.

The problem with PBOT and the city's approach in general to East Portland roads, isn't a lack of attention or investment. It's that the projects they do build are way too compromised (bcuz politics), too sympathetic to drivers, and are lacking in physical protection for bikers/walkers.

Baker’s “no” and his unwillingness to go-along to get-along could be seen as a shot across the bow.

this is probably the strongest statement i've seen from a city council person in the last 20 years. And note that he's doing the type of direct blame/shame of drivers I've been hoping/calling for. I think it's effective and much needed.

Lots of activists don't like when police say in crash statements: "The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation." The way I write it is: "Police have spoken to the driver and an investigation is ongoing."

Gotta love when ODOT Director tells his bosses at the OR Transportation Commission about how the IBR Admin has decided to leave the project, without ever actually saying those words or Greg Johnson's actual name. It's just a "leadership transition"... nothing to see here.
