I can't quite believe I'm saying this at the ripe old age of 41. But for the first time in about 20 years I've found myself writing poetry/lyrics as a means of cathartic release. Course, I haven't played an instrument in even longer so gawd knows what I am going to do with them.

There are so many companies now offering print on demand cds that it almost feels like Big Finish are trapped in the past deciding they can't justify print runs for some titles even though it's naturally pissed off all the collectors.

20 years old today! Still my favourite "metal" album, though given it is actually a genre hopping audio noir concept record about a serial killer, that's possibly a misnomer. Adore this record from start to finish. Totally bonkers, but it deserves your attention as a cult classic.

Laurie Webb, aka Mr Ollis from Doctor Who’s The Three Doctors, was one of my favourite Who people. He also delivered one of its best lines (“You’d never believe me woman: supper ready?”). Laurie died, peacefully, on Sunday, just five weeks short of his 102nd birthday. What a life: he was adorable.

And that's it really. I did enjoy Brussels, but going there right after Rovaniemi really emphasised how special the latter is. Everything is just so different up there. I'm only slightly gutted we were two weeks too late for Arctic Pride, which I absolutely want to experience one day!

Got a bit more sightseeing in on Saturday afternoon. Also ate waffles like a proper fuckin tourist.

We visited the Magritte Museum on Saturday morning, which was a nicely curated chronological exploration of his life's works.

The main aim of Friday night was to get to Le Cercueil - aka The Coffin. It's a metal pub with horror theming. It's also one of the few places in Brussels we went to where service went beyond the perfunctory as is their usual custom. The staff were super nice and welcoming. Felt more like Finland!

We finally got a taste of Brussels proper on Friday evening, and enjoyed the general queer friendly vibe of the city centre.

As it was included in a ticket bundle deal we decided to also visit Mini-Europe. Never really been fussed about model villages but this one has a good sense of humour and is very interactive.

Our first stop on Friday was Atomium - an almost 70 year old building designed as a vision of the future. Surprisingly not a science museum, it contains elements of its own history, a visual light show and a restaurant. Worth a visit but definitely manage your expectations.

Brussels was a culture shock after the clean, calm beauty of Rovaniemi. Gone was politeness and friendliness. In were tons of people sleeping on mattresses under bridges and a real hustle bustle that felt like a miniature London ignoring all its problems. Also, its trams are stuck in 1976:

Sadly had to depart Rovaniemi on Thursday, but would love to go back in the summer sometime... and again when winter has a tighter grip. What a phenomenal place that I think stole a bit of my heart! From there we went on to Brussels, arriving very late at night so just crashed when we landed!

Another one for all you paw lovers out there. I see you. The big beardog sees you.

Our final day in Rovaniemi (26th) was spent visiting Korundi, the local art gallery and concert hall space.

There aren't many museums that look like a Batman supervillain could live in them, but Arktikum is one of them for sure.

25th March we had the maddest adventure yet... most of which is tricky to post here cos it's video based! But we both took turns at riding a husky sled through the forest of Pisavaaran Luonnopuisto, and frankly it felt like life just PEAKED.

Food in Rovaniemi is flawless. Everywhere we ate was delicious - even when places looked like tourist traps on the outside, the service was always excellent. Special shout out to the guy serving us a cheeky bit of bonus FREE food at Restaurant Nili just cos they're really nice.

Still on 24th March (it was a PACKED period), we took a lovely gentlemen called Valkko for a walk in the forest. Which honestly felt like my calling.

There was a sign encouraging you to hug a tree for peaceful mindfulness. Lozzy did it and looked adorable. I did it, and a background tree decided the sign telling you where the peacocks are was ripe for spoiling things.

Moving to the back of Santa's Village I spotted this and got a Prince song stuck in my head... so now you can too.

We met the actual Santa Claus, which was surprisingly fun.

The following day (24th) we paid a visit to Santa Claus Village. First up, I have to confess this first photo gives me real "We saw you from across the bar and really dug your vibes" energy. 😜 Whereas the fourth photo is me auditioning for my future Santa impersonator job when my hair goes white.

Our Northern Lights chase took us to Sieppijärvi - the most Northern point on the map I've currently been. To say we got lucky is an understatement. First two photos are from the professionals. The rest are just snaps from my own phone.
