Yooka-Replaylee is a substantial step up. I don't know if it's as good as Impossible Lair, but it finds all the fun the original dropped the ball on with its jankier aspects. No stamina loss when rolling alone makes the game twice as enjoyable.

Play Soulbound, it's utterly fantastic! Even if you're an anti-Sigmar guy, it's such a good system for high-powered fantasy campaigns with narrative goals on a huge scale

I have noticed a lot of the RTS I gravitate toward (Dawn of War, BFME2, Empire At War, Total Warhammer etc.) are licensed. It’s funny to imagine someone in 2025 being like “I need to market my movie. I think I’ll have someone make a real-time strategy game for the personal computer”

Desmond segments in AC are the sacred price paid for the fun parts. They are the Boo levels from SMW for the modern parkour platformer. They are the pickle with your to-go sandwich and has become lukewarm after 30m wrapped up under a heat lamp. Throw out that pickle and your dignity goes with it

The Dawn of War games have lots of great endings for various campaigns, but none moreso than the corruption ending in Chaos Rising where Gabriel Angelos just beats you to death with a hammer in the middle of a Blood Ravens staff meeting. I assume this is how space marines deal with most problems

Deadlock's whole 'let's add six heroes one after the other over a period of two weeks' thing has been a beautiful hectic mess and probably not likely to happen again but man I hope they do it again

Really poignant article here. Lots of video games deal with a coming of age and even a ‘shadow self’ but KH2’s best and boldest gambit was making you live Roxas’ perfect, weird life for a bit. When his story resolves the way it does, you feel the same bittersweet grief that comes with growing up.
