Residents of the encampment, the Mountain View community, who were swept by Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez have signed a letter to the office demanding she end sweeps and "push back against 41.18," the anti-camping law that many were cited with.

We signed this letter to CD1. 41.18 can and will be used to criminalize ANYONE existing in public that the State doesn’t want existing in public. And sweeps are only going to get worse and more frequent unless our so-called “progressive” officials step up and fulfill their campaign promises.

Mountain View encampment residents confronted a progressive council member's staffer on why he ordered a sweep that drew heavy police presence, why there wasn't shelter. Another told @thelareporter.bsky.social the sweep felt like a burglary. She said it was "heartbreaking, for no reason."

Housing is the answer, and then the services that people need to live Food, medical care, etc. It's very difficult to rest when you are homeless. A lot of people use alcohol or drugs to cope with being on the streets. Stable housing is the place to start

All of our struggles are connected. The Mountain View Community was attacked by the state this week. All Angelenos feel the pain of that. The fascism of the federal government starts at home. It starts even in so-called "progressive" districts.

The thing about working with cops, is, don’t fucking do it. At best, you’re lining up your own attendees to get snatched and beaten. At worst, you’re lining up yourself to get scapegoated by the police. Don’t fucking do it.

Ok, but he is still trying to deploy the Guard in Chicago and PDX over people in inflatable suits. We’ve seen his characterization of the protests differ from reality and yet, it’s not stopped him. This “don’t give him what he wants” line is tired.

This encampment was slowly organizing, making demands of the city, cd1 of cm Henandez and team and the response was a a sweep with no offer of housing a couple weeks ago in which 2 LAPD officers were violent towards residents—I was also shoved by a cop by the name of Solorio during this prior sweep.
