The encampment I’ve been organizing did some rad shit this week.

Happening in CD 2 as well. One of the communities I serve has been swept every couple of weeks for the last 2 months. This week it was Cal Trans and LA County. Not a single service provider was present until the sweep was nearly complete.

Historic Filipinotown residents delivered a letter to LA City Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez demanding regular trash pick-ups and more help to find local housing after at least two recent city sweeps at their encampment led to valuable belongings getting taken or trashed.

We've been doing outreach at this encampment for years. Recently, the folks living there finally got fed up with the city treating them like trash. They came together, made a list of demands, and delivered them to Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez's office. This is what organizing looks like! ✊

Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez pledged to end sweeps in his district. Instead, his sweeps bring cops to encampments, bulldoze people's only form of shelter without providing housing, and trash their belongings.
