I am SO excited to share our new preprint, spearheaded by the brilliant @aozsu.bsky.social! We use ANNs to show that the brain might build internal models of the world by learning to distinguish imagery from perception, and that this could explain why imagination seems so vivid in children ✨

This preregistered, triple arm, single-session study tests the mechanisms underlying alpha upregulation through EEG neurofeedback. Alpha power was non-specifically increased, pointing to spontaneous repetition-related brain dynamics. @jacobmaaz.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/s44...

SCORE, a collaboration of 865 researchers, is now released as three papers in Nature, six preprints, and a lot of data (cos.io/score/). SCORE examined repeatability of findings from the social-behavioral sciences and tested whether human and automated methods could predict replicability.
