Fan fic for many is the end goal of their writing, used to express themselves, decompress, and maybe even process. If an author decides to use their fic as a jumping off point for og work, awesome! I don't love that some publishers maket that work using the og IP, but publishers are not authors!

Can we just agree that people write fanfiction for many reasons: Because of IP to spite IP sometimes just to make the story in your head happen with established characters. But also that fanfic writers turned authors are just trying to survive because of capitalism they're not exactly the big banks
