In a healthy second-hand market, brand value shows up as resale value and repairability. The real premium move is for a brand hold value in circulation, be the thing people will buy used without it feeling like a gamble.

Amazing book on this is Puppets, Gods, and Brands: Theorizing the Age of Animation from Taiwan by Teri Silvio. University of Hawaii Press - 2019 Uses ethnography in Taiwan to show how people 'animate' characters, objects, and ideas with personality, and how they relate to them as if alive.

In Thaiwanise Buddhism, there’s a ritual where you paint in the eyes of a statue, not to ‘reveal’ a soul, but to install a relation. After the eyes, the object can look back and it’s treated as alive.
