Listeners will have heard us reference this paper by Rawls on multiple past episodes. Definitely one of the most important and influential early works on gender in Tolkien.

Whenever I see someone complaining about "identity politics" being applied to Tolkien I just have to laugh because I'm just like--so we agree, we should be considering Tolkien within the queer historical contexts of the early 20th century prior to our rigid binarism of straight/gay identity.

To our trans and enby fans: we see & stand with you during what is going to be a trying 4 years. As the US slides into naked oligarchy & fascism, we encourage you to be politically active on the local level when safe. We commit to being vocally queer & fostering a safe space within this fandom. 🌈
