One of my friends in Antarctica had brought a paperback of Worst Journey to re-read while there. He discovered his colleague had never read it so he tore it in two from where he'd got to and gave the first half to his friend to read. It's one of the most touching things I've ever seen.

At Worldcon, I moderated a panel about SFF in comics. I had us all talk about the strengths and weaknesses of the medium. The weaknesses part quickly turned into talking about its strengths again. So conclusion, comics has no weakness as a medium! (the pay and industry is the real weakness)

The "work for hire"/freelance set-up of comics work is not great for most creators, in terms of long-term benefit. This is one reason (among others) to actively support creator-owned comics when you can, alongside the work you may enjoy from Marvel/DC/etc.
