Awful news out of Monmouth. Wales has been taking an absolute beating from floods in recent years. Hopefully the town response is similar to that in Pontypridd sfter 2020/2022 and the power and skills of the community saw restoration and repair start immediately.

I’ve seen some videos from locals. Truly horrific. Really hope everyone is okay and somewhere safe and dry.

English councils plan to sell off social clubs and sports centres to balance books. Social spaces lost forever. Libraries, community centres, school playgrounds, parks closed/sold as council funding cut in real terms to appease the rich. Social vandalism.

Interesting observation from @zackpolanski.bsky.social separating courageous journalism esp war zones & investigative reporting vs the class of political talking heads & columnists amplifying division and rage. Also on media ownership. Big mistake of last Labour Gov was not taking this head on.
