Badenoch is flunking in part because she wants to speak as if her party has been out of power more often than not in recent years, which was true of Thatcher in 1975 and is comically untrue of Badenoch in 2025.

It's even more striking when the original proposal is utterly detail-free, so everyone just backfills their 'how would THOSE people think THEY should study anthropology?' (they didn't) snobbery or their 'well, *I* studied theatre and made money' (the problem isn't theatre studies!).

Presumably Nigel Farage wants the UK to join Russia and Belarus as the only European countries outside the ECHR because he admires Putin so much. I guess Kemi Badenoch wants to leave only because Farage has already promised to do it.

Badneoch's speech reminds me of the speech given by IDS just before he was removed as Tory Leader over 22 years ago.. Its disastrous, lazy and obviously not much thought into it 'We will reverse the family farm tax' So you want to reverse free breakfast clubs? Take that as a yes

Considering how historically literate and sensitive to echoes of speeches of the past our media has shown itself to be, when it comes to every word uttered by a progressive, I find the lack of reaction to Jenrick ending his speech with "let us build this new order" quite puzzling. ~AA

I think this will probably end up with a lab, lib dem, green coalition at the next ge. Labour will rally a bit in the election, in the face of Reform possibly winning and Reform have a very shallow support base compared to labour, so will only gain up to 80 or 100 seats max.

I think it almost certain he'd be hilariously unpopular as PM, because he's hilariously unpopular already, and even those less obviously thin skinned and unpleasant than Nigel don't get *more* popular in office. But I think he'd also be miserable because being blamed for decline is not actually fun

Not a single mention of the NHS--not least in the section on what the Tories did in government that, in her words, "lost us the trust and confidence of the public". Unless the Party gets the extent to which the crippling of key public services helped lose them the election, then they're truly sunk.

Just noticed the Conservativesā British ICE proposal also involves using mass deployment of facial ID ā still an unproven and unreliable technology that particularly struggles with non-white faces ā to enable deportations. Which would inevitably mean false positives leading to detention of citizens
