Seeing infinitely more outrage about the leaked planning of military attacks by bungling politicians than outrage around slaughter of innocent kids by such attacks. Has to be new to be news.

By Labour’s own estimates today, they are about to force yet another 50,000 kids into acute poverty, the impact of which will last a lifetime. This in a country where 1 in 4 kids are already growing up in poverty. Astonishing this story doesn’t lead every broadcast, every newspaper.

When the show 'Benefits Street' was produced, a poll showed that the public thought 41% of the welfare budget went to people who were unemployed; the real figure was 2.3%. Politicians and journalists don't just respond to public opinion — they actively shape it.

Wall to wall media coverage of wealthy farmers protests, with max airtime for millionaires Clarkson and Farage, when day before this story slipped largely under media radar that MORE THAN ONE THIRD of kids now growing up in poverty. Feels like that’s the inheritance we should be talking about.

“More than 1 in 3 children in poverty as UK deprivation hits record high”. Will never understand how the shame of this doesn’t generate far, far more outrage. Has quickly just become background noise, the way things are, another crisis to go with the others.
