Der Begriff „umstritten“ ist im politischen Kontext so irritierend, weil er vorgibt, offene Diskurse zu beschreiben oder zuzulassen, in Wirklichkeit aber stellt er eine Form von ‚harmony ideology‘ dar. Dieser Ausdruck stammt von der US-Anthropologin Laura Nader, die ihn in den 1990ern prägte. Ein 🧵.

Die aktuelle Verwendung des Begriffes "umstritten" hat den "Streit" im Wort getilgt & ihn zugunsten einer 'Harmony Ideology' des Alles-Sagbaren geopfert. Das mögliche Ergebnis des Streites (Dissens! Konflikt! Bruch!) wird dem "das wird man doch noch sagen dürfen" & "alle Stimmen hören" untergeordnet

Wieder Rückbezug zum "umstritten": Etwas so zu beschreiben, dass der wirkliche Streit gar nicht mehr zustande kommt, leistet genau dies: Der Begriff suggeriert offenen Diskurs, schließt aber gleichzeitig den Raum dafür, indem alles, worüber gestritten werden soll, gleichermaßen sagbar gemacht wird.

"Harmony Ideology" ist eine Praxis, die den Geist mittels unpersönlicher, verinnerlichter, unsichtbarer Hegemonie „kolonisiert“. Kulturelle Kontrolle ist laut Nader wirkungsvoll, weil ihre Abläufe im Laufe der Zeit als selbstverständlich angesehen werden: Harmonie als „natürliche Ordnung der Dinge“.
