Well yea, like I said, I think it depends on how/what for one is using these. In general, LLMs can be helpful for *educated users. The problem is that they are so easy to use in a way that is hindrance to education. Coding is still a special skill, writing is a basic skill - connected to thinking.

This is exactly the kind of studies we should be doing. LLM are good at some things and bad at others. We need a more comprehensive cataloging of what they are good and bad at. Combating LLM by proactively declaring they are bad at everything won't work, because they *are* good at something.

I routinely tell students that English is neither my first nor my 2nd language and that I will therefore not penalise them for the occasional English mistake or non-idiomatic turn of phrase. I did that even before LLMs, but even more so now, so that they don't think they need LLMs to "correct" them

On LLMs:

I’m not against ML as a research tool or object of study, but I’ve yet to be convinced that LLMs have any useful role to play in higher education. Indeed, I think they are by their very nature unethical and unreliable. Why would any learning institution want to promote their use?

Are we really hoping that all terms can be defined prior to their usage? It's impossible, bc we need words to define words. Hence, already Śabara at the beginning of his commentary (on PMS) established that unless they are defined otherwise, all words should be taken in their usual meaning. 1/
