Today I stopped redirecting the url based on my name to my consulting site for work and built a site for my music instead. It felt damn good.

Despite living in Texas since 1979, I will never be a Texan, and here is how I know: My old Doc Martens root me to the earth in a way than no cowboy boots have ever been able to do. (Also, I’m woke AF)

This is what the cover art will be. Releasing Friday 4/10 on Bandcamp, streaming platforms (Spotify etc). A bit lighter than my recent fare and some solid Howlin’ Wolf / Muddy Waters influence on slide. Super happy with the slide parts

Think I have the Sweetwater Sales Engineer song tracked. Redid the slide solo and the Hammond organ tracks this am. Let it marinate, come back and do a final mix in a day or so.

I will not claim to be good at slide - I’m a songwriter who gets by on it, not a lead player - but on a good day, playing slide feels like being a centaur that’s part human, part small glass bottle

Bass recording best practice: hold the final note and let it sustain out naturally so the engineer can fade it as desired. My bass reality: if I did that with this Precision, I'd be here all day. "You can go out and get a bite of lunch and it'll still be ringing." Such a great bass!

Ok, for me, two music truths and a music lie… 1. I read sheet music, but only in C clef (viola) 2. I started my first band less than two weeks after buying my first bass guitar 3. An early version of Smashing Pumpkins opened for one of my early bands

A song about watching your kids grow up, and also about becoming grown up. It switches perspective a time or two. Very happy with the airiness of the track and with the tremolo guitar.

My wife and I are both sick and we’re locked in the master bedroom to avoid exposing the kids who are home with a friend, and they’re calling our room the “room of death.” So empathetic.

If there is one single takeaway from recent events - Epstein, ICE, MAGA, Board of Peace - it’s that no one person should have very much power at all over others. We have struggled for generations with a political question that amounts to “who should be in charge.” And the answer has to be “no one”
