If you are wondering how upzoning in Edmonton is going; when I moved into my place last year it was $1300 for a 1 bed. Now my landlord is offering a slightly larger unit for $1200. Its crazy! If I wasn't moving cities I'd be down there renegotiating my lease as we speak

I'm fairly certain that someone on Strava has notifications set up for when I upload a new activity. Of all the platforms to have notifications, Strava? Really?

Here is some info for my fellow Edmonton residents for no particular reason: The strongest wind gust ever recorded in Edmonton was 146 km/h on Oct. 1, 1965. (It is very windy here in Alberta today)

The provincial government is imposing the largest property tax increase in Calgary’s history. Calgarians are facing more than double the increase of Edmonton. +$339 per home in Calgary. +$154 in Edmonton. Albertans deserve a system that is transparent, balanced, and fair.

The math doesn't lie. Danielle Smith spent $17 million on "Alberta is Calling" to recruit new residents. But spent $0 on the infrastructure to support them. Now that the bills are due and the services are failing, she’s pointing the finger at the very people she invited.

They won't start with banning birth control. First they'll lie about it. Then dictate who can prescribe it, use it, fund it, in what forms, and for how long. Suddenly, your doctor won't call you back. I know this is what they'll do because it's what they're doing to transgender healthcare right now.

seeing how ppl try to use accusations ableism against black folks regarding the n word being said is exactly why black ppl don't trust so many "woke" and liberal type spaces. they get talked down to constantly like there aren't disabled black men and women who have to navigate the same things.

Hey it’s me, a racialized person born in Alberta to an immigrant parent, with trans and queer friends, saying that the UCP does not get to determine who belongs here. All of us, and the Albertans yet to come, deserve to be here. And we must stand with Indigenous people to honour treaty promises.

I am genuinely concerned that the UCP will outright ignore the results of the referendum on immigration and do whatever the hell they want anyway.

A friend in the north end (Beaumaris) claims that EPS/CoE is bussing homeless folks from the core to Northgate and Castle Downs transit stations. Any validity in this? My first thought is that it’s Facebook community group bunk.

After a week or so in Vancouver & Victoria, I truly admire all the people who bike in the rain/damp. I *loathe* cycling in the rain. I suppose it’s a matter of having the right gear. At the same time, though, they might be blown away that I cycle in -30c

Urbanism is about a lot more than getting around. Having places that people want to visit and spend time within is the real key to making a city great. Edmonton has too many big attractions and too few third spaces - the local attractions. Sprawl and car dependency don't help, nor does delivery.
