I haven't seen a ton of people talking about The Lowdown and, having now seen the finale, it deserves a big audience. A beautiful show that draws you in on the promise of a good mystery (it delivers) but sneaks in a poignant story about the importance of weirdos and misfits in a cynical world.

It was/still is this line of books that rewrote classic works of literature for a children's reading level, but they only simplified the prose, I don't recall them ever censoring or changing the plot itself.
