29. Trip World DX by @limitedrungames.bsky.social and Sunsoft. This is certainly how I want the Carbon Engine releases to be. Not only do we get an enhanced version of the GB game, but we also get adequate extras and a nice interview with the creator. Short game but with so much in it.

Ah yes, the feeling of returning to the comfort of home and the less-comfort of the chaos you left behind in a panic before going to a convention.

I'm pretty convinced I will always be about a year or two behind the game releases out there, but there are some games I will definitely play as soon as I get em. Also buying weird and unique indie downloadable games. They need support even more, after all!

I realize it has been about seven years since we got a new Mega Man game (collections aside). MM11 did great for Capcom, and I think a couple more go-throughs could have at least lifted the quality closer to my expectations. And yet we have nothing but more collections. :<

Thread of games I finished on 2024 with thoughts/ad hoc review and scores or whatever:

Mega Man Battle Network did a real good job with character designs - but man the first game is uneven. No card sorting, lots of back-and-forth traversal, many things you can miss, very aggressive late-game enemies, mixed translation, confusing maps. Still, I'm glad to have played it through.

Finished up Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. I used the health bonus each time because, quite frankly, the enemy AI wrecks shop when given the chance. Really bad visual glitches on Boss 3, and some bosses took me a while to get the right setup. Fun and silly game, very recommended. Now onto DK DLC.

If you want a weird 3D platformer that you can beat in less time than it took me to get to writing this post, Ortheo is that game for you. Super Mario Sunshine like movement (dive, slide, etc.) with levels' only goal to collect all 5-8 gears while avoiding enemies. At least its only $2? <20 min long

I hope more indie game peeps and such take a look over here. But of course, unless the greater population moves, I understand.

Cham The Cat Adventure is a game you might not know, but you know the game it was based on - Super Mario Land. There are some games on Switch eShop that play homage to (and copy) early GameBoy Games. Little rough in execution sometimes but feels like a love letter from a fan. Pretty short like SML.

Bayonetta Origins is a recommendation. It shows a side of the Bayonetta world that we have not seen before, and its gameplay reflects the story and offers variety to keep you engaged. The Map is a bother for backtracking, but guide videos help. Great 2023 release that I feel is underappreciated.

Demon Throttle is a great homage to King's Knight. Especially knowing that if you make a mistake you need to start the whole game over. Co-op is quite fun, and using the "Doinksoft Code" was pretty much necessary to get anywhere further than the second stage. Did not need the crude parts tbh.

I went through OneShot: World Machine Edition recently, and after playing Undertale and similar games, you can see how it influenced those games. Delightful artwork (and Niko must be protected at all costs). I might go back for the 2nd run but for now I've seen enough.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder is the 2D Mario game that people wanted after NSMB. Very imaginative and fun to experience. The badges are neat, though I mostly used two of them, and I felt two worlds were shorter than I'd like. However, the art, music, and gameplay are all peak design. Highly recommended.

Latest game finished was Moon: Remix RPG Adventure from Onion Games. I am glad it was translated, but it definitely showed its age in guidance. Beyond translation, the game is without any QOL enhancement. Glad to have played it finally, though, even if the game was obtuse at times. Super unique!

First game I completed since I got on here: Haiku the Robot. Imagine Hollow Knight's gameplay loop, replace bugs with robots and a similar plot and style as Kunai. It has a sprawling world and lots of fun movement options to unlock. Nice NPCs, ambient music mostly, easier difficulty. Good game!

My first hot take here: Federation Force is a highly misunderstood game that plays well. In the same vein as Triforce Heroes, it asked people to play with others using the 3DS, but timing was not on its side. Had this come out on console or 3DS after Samus Returns, its fate would be different.
