Former environmental scientist who enjoys gardening, travel, old cars & smart horses. Stay curious.
It's been too icy for walks around the farm. Today, it's warm, windy, and raining, so snow cover will soon melt.

Over the past few weeks, we cut back damaged & invasives to prep for spring planting with native plants. The wood was shared with a US veteran for winter heat. As a bonus, we've been rewarded with a pretty view of the western sky.

And if you've previously picked a side, you don't have to stay there. Whatever you may have thought Trump was, he's proven his unfit. Let's be pro-democracy now. We can go back to party politics when we get through this.

Yesterday's walk around the farm: Sassafras leaves from a favorite native North American tree. Young leaves are dried for Creole filΓ© powder or used as aromatic teas; root-bark makes a satisfying flavoring. As a bonus, dried twigs and branches make *excellent* fire starters.
