Yesterday morning kids were sent running from their bus stop in panic because ICE showed up. This guy at today’s ICE Out of Lindenwold protest is a must watch 😭.

Sometimes a headline can misrepresent a piece that's actually not bad. This is even stupider than the headline indicates.

I can't believe Biden hasn't banned ICE yet. Yeah, the shitlibs say "that's because he's not president and only Congress has that power" but that's because they're all bought by AIPAC and the League of Women Voters.

Mike Johnson won't be the majority leader after the election. Trump will absolutely attempt to overturn the midterms, but there's a lot of lazy doomerism that assumes that Trump has a plan (he doesn't) and that he'll be able to pull of a coup d'etat with no pushback.

Barring a miracle, Democrats will take the House in November, and Trump will attempt to overturn those results. However, he doesn't even have a strategy for *competing* in the midterms, so there's no chance he has a plan right now for overturning them:

Trump leaves Republicans guessing on midterms plans as outlook darkens
GOP candidates looking to the White House to lead in the face of the party’s dimming prospects for November’s midterms are facing a crucial hang-up: the president.

Great piece! One minor point: Sargent notes "Trump also has a long history of criticizing changes in NFL rules that have made the game safer for players." However, last fall he raged against the new kickoff rules that actually make the game *less* safe. He doesn't even understand football.

You didn't seize the means of production and establish the dictatorship of the proletariat so all your efforts are the insipid fruit of a flawed class consciousness. Shit, am I out of weed again? Maybe I can steal some of mom's.

Not only is this absurdly false (SCOTUS is vastly more powerful) but it also argues -- and the thread concurs -- that "Congress" is a unified entity in which the GOP plays no role whatsoever. Trump would love this, since it suggests an authoritarian is the obvious solution.

If I were trying to convince people we need a coordinated national response, I would not open my piece with a BS opposition between "voting rights and pro-democracy advocates" and "Pollyanna Democrats." That would be insulting if it weren't so transparently silly.

Hochul sucks but she's up by *53 points* on Delgado. Barring a miracle, she's the nominee. No way Mamdani would be stupid enough to cross the current and future governor over such an empty piece of symbolism.

JFC -- Roman Polanski had noting to do with "age of consent," or of consent in any form. He drugged and raped a 13 year old girl, to a plea bargain for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor, and then fled the country! Even by McMegan's standards, this is despicable.

Agree. Also, Mike Johnson is neither shrewd nor powerful, which makes this scenario even more unlikely. I also doubt that the conservatives on SCOTUS would overturn multiple House elections. There's no upside for them and they recognize that would lead to something like civil war.

Bad Bunny, obviously, is American. Rihanna, The Weeknd, Shakira, Coldplay, The Who, The Stones, Paul McCartney, U2, and Sting-- all of whom performed previously -- are not. Wonder why that wasn't a problem.

This whole discussion is absolutely bizarre. Newsom is a terrible governor and transphobe with few supporters whose only skill is a moderate facility for shit-talking. I have no idea why so many people are convinced he's likely to be the nominee.

This seat wasn't important legislatively, so someone probably told Donnie that a bad showing for the GOP would lead to more retirements, lower morale, etc.

I think one of the main reasons we've had bad presidents is that Dems have had narrow margins in Congress. LBJ had 65/66 Senators and a 70+ seat majority in the House! Yeah, he was a very talented politician, but imagine what Obama or Biden could have done with that!

A permanent end to uranium enrichment in Iran is a great idea! I think that Trump should get other countries involved so that they could work on, oh, I don't know, maybe a joint comprehensive plan of action? Not sure why no one thought of that!

In all seriousness, I think one reason why Trump *could* toss Miller is his appearance. Trump is almost obsessed with appearance (Hegseth, RFK, almost every woman) and Miller looks like a cross between Gollum and Montgomery Burns’ younger brother.

A lot of people believe that if the Dems shut down the government, Republicans will inevitably cave. At best, the Dems would get some minor concessions. Sometimes it's worth fighting a battle that has no chance of success, but that's not the same as believing the Dems have magical powers.
