Weird feeling to be cited by Thomas in support of a position I completely disagree with. What he should have got from this article is that the problem of racial polarization in voting still exists and so we need both the federal VRA and state VRAs to protect systemically marginalized voters' rights.

Truly a terrible outcome. They reargued Citizens United to expand it to a case about all of money in politics. I worry that this reargument will be about whether Section 2 of the VRA can ever be constitutional, given the racial gerrymandering doctrine. Thomas' dissent specifies as much. Dark.

Among other things, in 18 years time this will create all sorts of problems for those states that have a documentary proof of citizenship (DPOC) requirement to vote.
