In 31 out of 36 countries surveyed, less than half of people have confidence in Trump to do the right thing regarding world affairs. In 26 of those places, 30% or less have confidence in him.

What happens when war breaks out in the middle of a survey? That's exactly what happened with our Spring 2026 @pewresearch.org Global Attitudes Survey. And in several countries, views of both the U.S. and the national economy weakened over the course of our fielding period.

NEW: Our new 36-country survey finds declining ratings for the U.S. amid rising concerns about its foreign policy and the health of its democracy. Overall, a 36-country median of 23% have confidence in Trump, compared to 76% who do not.

Satisfaction with the way democracy is working didn't change much from last year in most of our surveyed countries. But there were four exceptions: In South Korea and Japan, satisfaction skyrocketed after a year filled with significant political change. In the U.S. and Australia, views worsened.

In a March survey, we asked Americans how likely they are to follow the World Cup. Just 28% said they are at least somewhat likely to watch. Only 14% said they are very or extremely likely to follow the games.

Majorities in both parties agree that Iran is not doing enough to avoid civilian casualties. But Democrats are three times more likely than Republicans to say the U.S. is not doing enough to avoid civilian casualties.

Republicans (47%) are much more likely than Democrats (5%) to say the U.S. military action against Iran will make the Iranian people better off. But within the GOP, there are big age divides. Republicans 65 and older are about twice as likely as those under 30 to say Iranians will be better off.

New from @pewresearch.org: About a third of Americans have confidence in Trump to make good decisions when it comes to policy toward Iran. That number has declined since he was a candidate for president in 2024, including by 18 points among Republicans.

In a new article out today in @nathumbehav.nature.com, we find that members of demographic groups with lower trust in scientists increase their trust when presented with scientists who look like them. Not just on gender and race, but also rurality and class. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Across 25 countries we surveyed earlier this year, trust in others varies widely. But it tends to be higher in high-income countries than in middle-income ones.

We've previously found that trusting others is associated with things like higher confidence in public school principals and greater life satisfaction. In a new post out today, we find that whether people trust others also relates to how they think about international affairs.

Generally speaking, would you say that most people can or can't be trusted? In our new post out today, we asked this question in 25 countries. 55% of Americans say that most people CAN be trusted. The U.S. is consistent with a wider trend of people in high-income countries being more trusting.

Our latest report finds that most Canadians view the U.S. and Trump negatively. But a growing share view the U.S. as the world’s leading economic power. Canada is the only country of 23 surveyed where more people view the U.S. as the world’s leading economic power today than two years ago.

In many of the 24 non-U.S. countries we surveyed this year, views of the U.S. have turned significantly more negative, while views of China have turned slightly more positive. Check out the full report here: pewrsr.ch/3TGCU2H

We asked people in 25 countries to tell us which country is their most important ally and which is their greatest threat. In Canada and Mexico, people most commonly list the U.S. as both their top ally and biggest threat. In most European countries surveyed, Russia is the top threat named.
