Just back from a few restorative days away in London. One of the many highlights was visiting the Sir John Soanes museum, gamefully accompanied by my 19yo daughter. She loved it too. It’s the combination and juxtaposition of objects in the displays that I love the most.

A packed weekend with a wonderful public lecture from Dr Deborah Russell on Ann Radcliffe and Women’s Gothic Writing, followed by a full Saturday of editorial meetings with advisory board member Jim Watt from York. More exciting things in the pipeline too for 2026/7.

It’s a bracing morning in Sheffield with the gusts of Storm Eowyn, but a walk is bearable. Stay safe, Scottish family and friends. I’m really hoping that my wee mum’s boiler does not expire in the face of these winds.

Just received my hard copy of Emma McEvoy’s brilliant The Music of the Gothic, from Cambridge Elements in the Gothic. This is a groundbreaking study, and one that is also enhanced through the digital recordings of the music through the Cambridge Elements platform.
