Wie konnte es soweit kommen, dass die AfD mit ihren rassistischen, autoritären Positionen solchen Zuspruch bekommt? Alle befragen sich, was die eigenen Fehler waren. Nur in den Redaktionen der Medien gibt es anscheinend null Zweifel, null Selbstkritik. Alles weiter so. Das geht nicht.

Der Aufstieg der Linken fasziniert mich. Ich hatte da so eine Vermutung und tatsächlich ist es so: Die Linke gewinnt dort wo die Grünen verlieren. Der Zusammenhang ist bemerkenswert, der Zusammenhang zu Gewinnen/Verlusten der SPD andersrum und zu denen der CDU nicht vorhanden.

Basically right, except Die Linke are no-longer “populist left. More like “radical left” or even “progressive left”, like the Scandi equivalents. BSW have done Die Linke a huge favour, by detoxifying them.

Es braucht jetzt keine „Wir bauen die Mauer wieder auf“-Witze, sondern Solidarität mit all den Menschen, die in Gegenden mit rechtsextremer Dominanz leben und trotzdem ihre Stimme erheben.

My theory of why Die Linke did best among young voters: segregation between people with and without migration background is less bad among youths than it was during my school days or in my generation's work/social environments, let alone among even older generations. 1/x

The parallels to the Swiss social democrats in 2023 are evident: 1) Appeals to young (female) voters with a credible progressive agenda and heavy emphasis on housing 2) Strong results in urban centers 3) Rather young co-leadership 4) Targeted campaigning with clear appeals

Let's see. Mannheim direct candidates Cademartori, Akbulut and Koch were elected via SPD, Linke and AfD party lists. Mannheimers will not be without parliamentary representation. I suspect similar constellations in other 'empty seats.' But CDU /CSU will definitely push for electoral reform.

This has been true for the entire existence of the AfD, but it is worth emphasizing again and again: Among German voters, the AfD is the most unpopular party.

It's a rather low hurdle but we cleared it, not a given these days.

The story of the German election is not only that normalisation serves the radical right. It is also that facing up against radical right politics beyond mere lip service can indeed be electorally effective.

I celebrate the 80% of Germans who did not vote for the far right. Do not make 19.6% of German voters into "the" German people (again). "The" German people don't exist! The German population is diverse and divided, but voted overwhelmingly for liberal democratic parties. #BTW25 #GermanElection

Szenarien: - Schwarz-Rot (FDP & BSW raus) - Schwarz-Rot-Gelb (FDP drin, BSW raus) - Schwarz-Rot-Grün (FDP & BSW drin) Nur im ersten gibt es eine verlässliche 2/3-Mehrheit für eine Schuldenbremsenreform. Im zweiten könnte die FDP aus der Regierung blockieren. Im dritten wird es rechnerisch knapp.

Wieder einmal zeigt sich: "die #Jugend" wählt nicht rechts. Vielmehr sind junge Wähler:innen eine sehr #heterogene Gruppe. Bei den 18-24-Jährigen ist die #Linke mit 25% stärkste Kraft. Am besten schneidet die #AfD bei den 35-44-Jährigen (25%) ab, am schlechtesten (10%) bei den über 70-Jährigen.

The Left (Die Linke) receives a spectacular result among the very young German voters:

Some quick take-aways 1) Merz’ strategy doesn’t pay off (as political scientists predicted), neither in terms of vote share, nor in terms of coalition options. 2) SPD gets worst result in party’s long history. That’s it for Scholz obviously… and accommodation on immigration didn’t pay off, did it?

Astonishing result for the Linke. It shows the mobilization potential of a left-progressive force even against huge obstacles like a bad brand and huge intra-arry conflict. Especially the Greens should recognize what this means for their own future startegies.

Too early to call but my guess is that the few seats that the Greens might end up lacking to make a black-green coalition possible are those that Die Linke gained.
