I saw masses of parma violet-scented Sweet Violets and, surprisingly, a very fresh Field Scabious in a verge in a sheltered location at YHA South Downs, Southease. #wildflowerhour

Looks very much like Blackthorn. Seen in a (planted?) hedge near the A27, Lewes, so probably not wild, strictly speaking. I'm sharing it though as I didn't see much else in flower this week #wildflowerhour

I found 37 species in flower during a New Year Plant Hunt around my local patch in East Sussex. Best sites were Streat and East Chiltington churchyards and Ashurst Organics' veg fields #NewYearPlantHunt

A Boxing Day walk taking in Tide Mills, Seaford Bay and Seaford Head gave me 13 species in flower: Periwinkle, Silver Ragwort, Rock Samphire, Groundsel, Daisy, Red Dead-nettle, Sweet Violet, Ragwort, Cranesbill, Smooth Sowthistle, Common Mouse ear, Sea Mayweed and Gorse #wildflowerhour #thewinter10

A dentist appointment in Lewes gave me enough #pavementplants for #thewinter10: Trailing Bellflower, Bristly Oxtongue, Dandelion, Petty Spurge, Guernsey Fleabane, Yarrow, Shepherd's Purse, Ivy-leaved Toadflax, Groundsel and Common Chickweed #wildflowerhour

In recent years, I usually see the odd pink anemone-like female Hazel catkin before Christmas. I was surprised this week though to see so many fully open male catkins & producing lots of pollen too!!!! #wildflowerhour

After frost and heavy rain I didn't expect to find #thewinter10 during an early morning walk on the South Downs this morning. In fact, I found 14 species in flower (see separate posts for individual id's) #wildflowerhour
