First strawberry of the season. Pitcher of hibiscus-mint tea sitting in the sun. Laundry drying on the line. Bees foraging in the wild geraniums. Penstemons about to bloom. Gonna miss this place while I'm in RI for work this week.

Fulfilled a childhood fantasy today and got a bleeding heart plant for my yard. I've wanted one since I was a little girl. I saw them in fancy yards and wanted one so badly, but our house had too much sun. My yard isn't that fancy, but it has bleeding heart now and that brings me joy.

I hate AI. I hate AI the way Montresor hates Fortunato, the way Simon Gruber hates John McClane, the way Kendrick Lamar hates Drake: with the intensity of ten thousand fiery suns. It is an affront to our humanity. It is a blasphemy upon the sacredness of the human condition.

Took me 5 minutes to submit a comment on this batshit rule floated by the FCC. Forcing shows to issue a warning if they so much as mention gender identity is a terrible idea. Trans and nonbinary people exist and deserve full inclusion in our society and media, full stop.

I got sick with COVID in late March. Since then, my energy and endurance have tanked, along with some fun fuckery with my heart rate. All I want to do is play in my yard outside and tend to my garden, and I just don't have the stamina for it. Mask the fuck up, kids. It's not worth it.

Not to be a total bummer but most everyone I know is struggling in America right now. Financially, physically, emotionally. I good deal of my energy is being output to keep myself and the people I care about above water. Again, not trying to be a bummer, but I feel its necessary to recognize it.

Next iteration, I'm going to try using GF flour. Also note that if you hoarded last year's rhubarb, this is a great use for it! I let mine thaw, but you can also use it frozen.

Fun aspect of my perfectionism: I'm ALWAYS on the lookout for ways to optimize or improve things. At work. At home. In the world. In the few daily routines I've managed to create and keep. It's a special kind of torment. It's so hard to feel accomplished, or even just content.

Last night, I made a truly awful cheese sauce for Welsh rarebit. So bad that spouse didn't take any and instead made improvised open face ham and asparagus sandwiches. Today, I did my best to rescue the leftover sauce into mac & cheese. "shellbow" pasta, broccoli, and served it with chili crisp.

instead of putting billions into AI, imagine that money going to housing, free health care, UBI, free college, making sure people have enough mental space to think and be creative, making sure all kids grow up with enough food. humanity could be its own super intelligence.
