Just did my daily call to @governorwalz.mn.gov asking him to issue a moratorium on evictions like he did in 2020 for COVID-19. Tomorrow, Mpls City Council members will introduce the Evict ICE, Not Us resolution, but there *must* be a state-level law/executive order or else it will have no teeth.

Just called my state senator & rep and the governor to ask that they place a moratorium on evictions until 🧊 gets the fuck out of our state. No one should lose their home because it's unsafe for them to be out in the communtiy under this occupation.

I have talked to folks plugged in across the housing spectrum and this is necessary. People have lost income sheltering in place, as will working parents if there are more daycare raids and school closures. Targeting immigrant business means owners won't make payroll. One of the most beautiful things I ever randomly stumbled into was the naturalization ceremony at the MN State Fair. The program was lovely and the new citizens were so proud. I'm not usually moved to patriotic feeling that much, but I teared up that day as my fellow Minnesotans took their oaths.

Amid all the hellscapes that our use of technology has enabled, I am grateful for live video streaming. A dear friend died recently and being able to watch his celebration of life online means everything today. Traveling to Toronto for it wasn't feasible.

This is one of those things that I think is quietly important – when these people are talking shit about cities, Portland or Minneapolis or New York or Charlotte or wherever, you have to loudly say, “no, fuck you, you’re lying, that town and its people whip ass and you’re the asshole”

The best way to navigate this is to BUILD AN ACCESSIBLE WORLD. This kills me, and in many/most situations isn't that hard, it shifts the burden of effort where it belongs (on institutions, away from people), and THERE IS NOT CHEATING. The world just works for more people.
