Someone told me that I sound like I speak Cantonese instead of Mandarin. They also said my English accent has a Southern, countryside feel—like I’m from Nashville. 🤔

Great talk! I do feel like I speak Mandarin differently across time. And, tbh, as a "non-native English speaker" teacher, I always feel the pressure to change my English accent to be a little more "standard" or "white" especially after I work and live in an English-speaking country/region.

kids seeing themselves and their worlds represented in literature is cool but they also need to hear themselves - their accents, their styles, their languages, their entire ways of communicating ❤️
