Redrew the faded numbers and position symbols on the electric stove. They were basically unreadable in use. I wonder if the landlord/letting agency will notice.

Had a nightmare there were roving Harry Potter promotional larps doing public scenes and trying to rope you in, like, "oh no this poor house elf is being pursued, will you help them hide or give them away?" Kinda like the Star Wars Galactic Cruiser.

Trying to redraw this with symbols I can actually understand... From Glasgow City Council's map of Public Recycling Points:
www.glasgow.gov.uk/article/2382...
Sorry the alt text doesn't actually describe all the locations, that's an undertaking even larger than making the symbols meaningful.

How does Glasgow Underground have brand new trains with screens all over them and still no way to see which station you are in if there's a train on the opposite platform?

I think I want to replace the thermal paste on an old Macbook running Linux. I want to know if I make things better, worse or no change. I can get instantaneous numbers from lm_sensors... but how would I get time series data? Under idle, medium and heavy load? Reproducibly?

I cannot believe how terrible mobile phone providers are. Giffgaff keeps dropping out in my new flat, and I am still waiting for broadband to get installed (first appointment cancelled due to dangerous telephone pole), so I thought I'd try getting a month of pay as you go on an esim.

Finished this with my sister. My Poirot lore is weak so most of the references were lost on me but I very much enjoyed the layout and solving experience. Very readable, lots of variety.

Can PDF files phone home? Like, if I download a PDF file and open it in a PDF reader or browser, can it run javascript code and exfiltrate, e.g., information about when I had the document open and which pages I read?

I like the idea of the user serviceability of the Framework laptop but the expansion cards really put me off. They take up so much space and the slots all have confusingly different capabilities. Plus the coloured bezels and expansion cards just don't seem to go with the laptop colours at all.

So... Glasgow has multiple different bus companies and they all have different (bad) payment systems. I use a Tripper ticket because it works across several of them and I can pay for one day ticket. It comes as a QR code on the phone... but First Bus combine their QR code reader with tap-on/tap-off.

Today I learned the official Docker images are all built from templated Dockerfiles[1], which expand snippets of jq in your Dockerfile. The templates are converted into full jq scripts by an awk script[2] and fed to jq. Amazing. [1]: e.g.

Please name me some video games about learning to navigate a space and making deliveries safely and/or efficiently, either as a main goal or a sub-game/quest. So: Yes: Silksong courier quests, crazy taxi, GTA No: Paperboy (no navigation), Super Metroid (no good match for "making deliveries")

Question for a kindly early modern scholar. In an English town circa 1600, what could you buy every day, and what only on market day? Ie: townies often had no oven, so presumably the bakery was always open? And the alehouses for those who didn't brew. Anything else?

I don't think video games really need so many buttons. Silksong has jump, attack, heal, music(??), dash, special, harpoon, map, menu 1, menu 2, taunt(???). That's so many! I miss Sonic the Hedgehog being like "jump and pause, sounds plenty, uhh... just make all the others jump as well".
